Get Lab and Clinical Experience as an Undergrad

In classes combining lectures and labs, you will learn to care for patients with a wide range of medical issues using advanced ultrasound imaging equipment to evaluate the human body, examine organ systems and vascular structures, and detect pathological changes.

A major in sonography prepares you for advanced-level practice so you’re ready to work in interdisciplinary healthcare teams in settings such as hospitals, clinics, and medical service companies. Our students are employed within the first six months of graduating!

Clinical experience is a vital part of our degree in St. Paul, Minnesota. The Abdomen-Extended, Obstetrics & Gynecology and Echocardiography tracks collaborate with many medical partners in the Twin Cities and surround out state. These include: Abbott-Northwestern HospitalM Health Fairview-University of Minnesota Medical Center, Hennepin County Medical Center, St. John’s, Fairview Ridges, Fairview Southdale, Allina Mercy, North Memorial, HSHS Sacred Heart, CentraCare, Healthpartners Regions, Park Nicollet, Mayo Clinic, the Essentia system, and Woodwinds Hospital. These partnerships allow you to work alongside an expert in the field and practice sonography in a wide range of medical situations.

A St. Kate’s Sonography general major prepares you to take national certification exams in ultrasound physics, abdominal ultrasound, and obstetrical and gynecological ultrasound (RDMS or ARRT). St. Kate's sonography Echocardiography major prepares you to take the national certification exam for Adult Echocardiography (RDCS or CCI).
